    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to honor
    1-3  Joseph Dale Morris of Austin for his exemplary contributions
    1-4  to historic preservation in his community and state; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A fourth-generation Texan and a lieutenant colonel
    1-6  in the Texas Army National Guard, this exceptional individual was
    1-7  directly responsible for restoring to working order Steam Engine
    1-8  Number 786, which his father, Fredrick Dale Morris, had persuaded
    1-9  Southern Pacific Railroad to donate to the City of Austin in 1956;
   1-10  and
   1-11        WHEREAS, It was Colonel Morris's dream to remove the engine
   1-12  from display at Brush Square Park at Trinity Street and 4th Street
   1-13  in Austin and put it back into service; he assembled a team of
   1-14  volunteers who shared his vision and, drawing only on private
   1-15  contributions, he succeeded in turning this dream into a reality
   1-16  through sheer persistence and hard work; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Colonel Morris also has founded the
   1-18  Austin Steam Train Association and the Austin and Texas Central
   1-19  Railroad, which began operation of an excursion train between
   1-20  Cedar Park and Burnet that has helped many Texas families
   1-21  recapture the past since it opened in July, 1992; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Through his outstanding achievements,
   1-23  Colonel Morris has not only preserved for all Texans the
    2-1  preeminent symbol of the Industrial Revolution in America
    2-2  but also has made a significant contribution to the state
    2-3  by inspiring the creation of numerous jobs and businesses,
    2-4  including 19 in Burnet alone, that inject more than $1 million
    2-5  per month into the local economy; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Colonel Morris's accomplishment is indeed an
    2-7  impressive one and deserving of special legislative recognition
    2-8  and praise; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Joseph Dale Morris for
   2-11  his exemplary contributions to historic preservation and the
   2-12  educational and cultural enrichment of the State of Texas and
   2-13  extend sincere best wishes to him for continued success and
   2-14  happiness in the future; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
   2-16  prepared for Colonel Morris as an expression of high regard from
   2-17  the Texas Senate.
