    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to join
    1-3  with the citizens of Galveston and the surrounding communities
    1-4  in recognizing June 12 and June 13, 1993, as Galveston Bay
    1-5  Weekend; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Galveston Bay is a natural resource of tremendous
    1-7  value and provides important commercial, recreational, and
    1-8  ecological benefits to citizens of the State of Texas; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States has declared
   1-10  Galveston Bay to be a nationally significant estuary; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The Bay Day Steering and Advisory Committees have
   1-12  been formed from representatives of commerce, navigation,
   1-13  recreation, and conservation organizations to plan, conduct, and
   1-14  support a Galveston Bay public celebration named Bay Day which is
   1-15  scheduled for June 12 and June 13, 1993, at Sylvan Beach Park; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Bay Day will showcase the multiple uses and
   1-17  cultural, historical, commercial, educational, and recreational
   1-18  opportunities of Galveston Bay; the event will feature numerous
   1-19  exhibits and water-related activities for families of all ages;
   1-20  and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Galveston Bay is an area of charm and natural
   1-22  beauty and has long been a popular vacation spot for citizens
   1-23  from all parts of the state; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Growth, development, and renovation in the area
    2-2  have been managed with care in order to preserve natural habitats
    2-3  and historic sites, and local residents deserve credit for helping
    2-4  to preserve the many diverse amenities of Galveston Bay; now,
    2-5  therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  73rd Legislature, hereby declare June 12 and June 13, 1993, as
    2-8  Galveston Bay Weekend and encourage all citizens to participate
    2-9  in the many Bay Day activities at Sylvan Beach Park; and, be
   2-10  it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  Galveston Bay area residents as a token of regard from the
   2-13  Texas Senate.
