No. 368 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Thekla Weilbacher Nentwich 1-5 WHEREAS, The many friends and family of 1-6 Thekla Weilbacher Nentwich have suffered a great loss with the 1-7 recent death of this fine woman at the age of 88; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born in Macdona, Mrs. Nentwich grew up on a 1-9 4,000-acre ranch established by her parents just south of 1-10 San Antonio; her father had emigrated from Germany when he was a 1-11 young man, and her mother's family had settled in Georgia before 1-12 moving to Texas; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mrs. Nentwich's childhood on the ranch gave her a 1-14 unique perspective that allowed her to move comfortably between 1-15 rural and urban environments; as a child, she rode her horse eight 1-16 miles to the nearest country school and developed a lifelong love 1-17 of animals and the great outdoors, but as an adult, she learned to 1-18 appreciate the diversity and excitement of city life as well; and 1-19 WHEREAS, This selfless individual graduated from Santa Rosa 1-20 School of Nursing in 1932 and dedicated much of her life to this 1-21 noble profession; she worked as a private duty nurse, but she also 1-22 was active as a volunteer and always was ready to help anyone in 1-23 need of medical assistance; and 2-1 WHEREAS, She married Arthur H. Nentwich on April 10, 1935, 2-2 and they shared many years of love and happiness; their marriage 2-3 was blessed with three children and grew in recent years to include 2-4 eight grandchildren; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Nentwich was a member of the Deladonna Home 2-6 Demonstration Club, where she learned cooking, canning, sewing, and 2-7 needlework and also volunteered her time and experience by teaching 2-8 first aid classes to the other club members; she also was actively 2-9 involved in several other community organizations, including the 2-10 Southwest High School Parent-Teacher Association and Athletic Club, 2-11 the Lytle Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, and the Red Cross; 2-12 and 2-13 WHEREAS, In her service to her family, her patients, and her 2-14 community, Mrs. Nentwich demonstrated a rare spirit of compassion 2-15 and caring, and in doing so, she made the world around her a better 2-16 place; a devoted wife, mother, and nurse, this esteemed woman will 2-17 be deeply missed, but her unique presence will surely live on in 2-18 the hearts of the many people whose lives she touched; now, 2-19 therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-21 73rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of 2-22 Thekla Weilbacher Nentwich and extend sincere condolences to the 2-23 members of her family: her daughters, Kathleen "Kitty" Janiga and 2-24 Lucille "Lucy" Suckel; her son, Carl A.
