No. 376 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the 1-3 residents of Fort Bend County in declaring Wednesday, March 10, 1993, 1-4 as Fort Bend County Day; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A county of rural charm and natural beauty, 1-6 Fort Bend County is a popular area for fishing, hunting, and 1-7 vacationing; yet it has recently been named the number two location 1-8 in the United States for manufacturing by the National Association 1-9 of Corporate Real Estate Executives; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The flavor of history in the Fort Bend County 1-11 lands is inspiring; old live oaks and river land and lakes have for 1-12 years been left undisturbed in spite of the county's proximity to 1-13 Houston; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The county was a major settlement site for 1-15 Stephen F. Austin's first colony of settlers, the Old Three Hundred, 1-16 who farmed land and established homes along the Brazos River and the 1-17 Oyster Creek area; and 1-18 WHEREAS, New development and population growth in the county 1-19 have been managed with care in order to preserve natural habitats 1-20 and the historical and pastoral ambience of the land and its famous 1-21 agricultural fields; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Fort Bend County is currently gaining national 1-23 recognition for its amazing growth, economic vibrance, and the 2-1 quality of its human resources; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The United States Census showed that Fort Bend County 2-3 outgrew the state, the nation, and the region with a whopping 72 2-4 percent growth from 1980 through 1990 and has a crime rate which 2-5 is 30 percent below the national average in crimes per 100,000 2-6 population; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The county is leading the state in job creation at 2-8 three times the state average for new manufacturing jobs and placed 2-9 third in the nation in master-planned community home sales in the 2-10 first half of 1992; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The county's ethnic diversity and excellent location 2-12 as part of the Houston metropolitan area have strengthened its 2-13 attractiveness statistically and factually, and it now has the 2-14 human resource base to compete on national and international 2-15 levels; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Fort Bend County residents have an award-winning 2-17 school system and a strong economy and provide much of the state's 2-18 rice, corn, and nursery crops; and 2-19 WHEREAS, Through hard work and clear-sighted goals, the 2-20 citizens of Fort Bend County have contributed significantly to the 2-21 State of Texas and deserve to be proud of their efforts; now, 2-22 therefore, be it 2-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-24 73rd Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the people of 2-25 Fort Bend County and extend best wishes to them for a celebratory 3-1 Fort Bend County Day; and, be it further 3-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-3 the residents of Fort Bend County as an expression of high regard 3-4 from the Texas Senate. 3-5 _______________________________ 3-6 President of the Senate 3-7 I hereby certify that the 3-8 above Resolution was adopted by 3-9 the Senate on March 10, 1993. 3-10 _______________________________ 3-11 Secretary of the Senate 3-12 ________________________________ 3-13 Member, Texas Senate 3-14 ________________________________ 3-15 Member, Texas Senate 3-16 ________________________________ 3-17 Member, Texas Senate
