1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly recognizes
1-3 Dr. J. W. Brent for his 34 years of loyal service in the ministry and
1-4 for his exceptional service as Pastor of New Faith Baptist Church of
1-5 Houston, Texas; and
1-6 WHEREAS, A graduate of Bishop College, Dr. Brent is president
1-7 emeritus of the Baptist State Convention and president of the
1-8 Inter-Baptist Theological Center; and
1-9 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman of many accomplishments,
1-10 Dr. Brent is a retired Deputy Sheriff of Harris County, a former
1-11 precinct judge of Precinct 582, and a former employee with the
1-12 Public Relations Department of Houston; since joining the ministry,
1-13 he has travelled abroad extensively and has preached in Copenhagen,
1-14 Denmark, at the World Alliance of Ministers; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Over the last 34 years, Dr. Brent has ministered
1-16 faithfully to the needs of innumerable Christians; and
1-17 WHEREAS, Under Dr. Brent's outstanding leadership,
1-18 New Faith Baptist Church has provided enlightenment, hope,
1-19 and support to the Houston community; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Inspirational and caring, this beloved pastor has
1-21 dedicated his time and energy unselfishly to the members of his
1-22 church and the residents of Harris County; and
1-23 WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, Dr. Brent has
2-1 performed countless ceremonies and has prayed for and counselled his
2-2 church members during their hardships and in times of bereavement;
2-3 now, therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-5 73rd Legislature, hereby join with the members of
2-6 New Faith Baptist Church in commending Dr. J. W. Brent for
2-7 his fervent service to the church, his fellowman, and the
2-8 community; and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-10 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
