    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                          Lisa Marie Padilla
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Round Rock and Austin in mourning the untimely loss of
    1-7  Lisa Marie Padilla who died February 20, 1993, at the age of 15; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A freshman at Round Rock High School, Lisa was
    1-9  diagnosed with kidney failure in June, 1992; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Lisa's father, Jesse Padilla, donated one of his
   1-11  own kidneys to his daughter in an effort to save her from a life of
   1-12  constant dialysis; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, After a successful operation, Lisa returned to a
   1-14  few weeks of normal life, but later she was hospitalized for
   1-15  problems with severe rejection; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, A talented, intelligent student who enjoyed
   1-17  writing poetry, Lisa was beloved by her classmates and by the
   1-18  faculty at Round Rock High School; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Courageous and inspiring, Lisa was an exemplary
   1-20  young woman whose valor in the face of her illness touched the
   1-21  lives of many; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, In spite of her difficult battles, Lisa rallied
   1-23  time after time from medical setbacks, dialysis, surgery, and
    2-1  hospital stays; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, She consistently manifested concern for others
    2-3  and was sensitive, generous, caring, and befriending; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, A source of strength and joy to all who knew her,
    2-5  Lisa lived her life to the fullest--rich in friendships, love of
    2-6  family, and cherished adventures; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Lisa was a member of Saint
    2-8  William's Catholic Church; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Lisa was a devoted daughter and granddaughter, and
   2-10  she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her
   2-11  family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-14  bereaved family of Lisa Marie Padilla:  her parents, Jesse and
   2-15  Lynn Padilla; her brother and sister, Justin and Alexis; her
   2-16  paternal grandparents, Maria Justa and Esteban Padilla; and her
   2-17  maternal grandparents, Vern and Virginia Egger; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-19  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
   2-20  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
   2-21  it do so in memory of Lisa Marie Padilla.
