No. 395 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize the First Methodist Church of Rocksprings, Texas, on 1-4 the grand occasion of its 100th anniversary; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The First Methodist Church was organized in 1893 1-6 in the home of Mrs. Mary Buswell who lived one block west of the 1-7 courthouse; the first bishop was R. H. Hargroves and the first 1-8 pastor was D. O. McAllister; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Church services were later held in a small 1-10 schoolhouse on Mrs. Buswell's property, and shortly thereafter, 1-11 at the schoolhouse at the present school site; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A parsonage and church building were erected 1-13 around 1900; the first buildings were destroyed by the storm in 1-14 1927 and were replaced in 1928 by the present parsonage and church 1-15 buildings; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Over the years, the First Methodist Church has 1-17 ministered faithfully to the needs of innumerable Christians; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its 1-19 pastors, and the outstanding leadership of its current pastor, 1-20 Reverend John Quigley, the church has continued to grow and to 1-21 undertake many worthy projects within the community; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The First Methodist Church has become an invaluable 1-23 source of strength for church members during their hardships and 2-1 in times of bereavement; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The celebration of its 100th anniversary is an 2-3 expression of the church's enduring commitment to its holy mission 2-4 and its dedication to tradition and unity among Christians; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The church is being honored with an Official Texas 2-6 Historical Marker awarded by the Texas Historical Commission; the 2-7 dedication of the historical marker takes place the first Sunday 2-8 in May, 1993; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 73rd Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and 2-11 members of the First Methodist Church of Rocksprings on the 2-12 jubilant occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-14 the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-15 _____________________________________ 2-16 President of the Senate 2-17 I hereby certify that the 2-18 above Resolution was adopted by 2-19 the Senate on March 11, 1993. 2-20 _____________________________________ 2-21 Secretary of the Senate 2-22 _____________________________________ 2-23 Member, Texas Senate
