    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                        Virgil Claude McGinnes
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Alvin, Houston, and Friendswood in mourning the loss of
    1-7  Virgil Claude McGinnes who died February 24, 1993; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born January 19, 1907, in Possum Trot, Texas,
    1-9  Virgil McGinnes was the founder of McGinnes Brothers, Incorporated,
   1-10  and a resident of Alvin since 1941; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Dedicated to his work in the banking industry,
   1-12  Mr. McGinnes was the founder and on the board of directors of
   1-13  MacGregory Park Bank of Houston and was the director of Texas
   1-14  National Bank of Commerce, Friendswood; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, He was a member of the Associated General
   1-16  Contractors and the Houston Contractors Association and did
   1-17  contract business in Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Missouri,
   1-18  Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, A versatile and talented businessman, he was
   1-20  responsible for the construction of the canal system from the
   1-21  Brazos River to Alvin and to Texas City for the former Briscoe
   1-22  Irrigation Company; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Respected in the community for his many
    2-1  accomplishments, Virgil McGinnes was an exemplary gentleman and
    2-2  a well-known civic leader; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
    2-4  gave unselfishly of his time to others; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. McGinnes was an active
    2-6  member of South Park Baptist Church; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, His wisdom, warm spirit, and valued counsel will
    2-8  not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Virgil McGinnes was a devoted husband and father,
   2-10  and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
   2-11  family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
   2-14  family of Virgil Claude McGinnes:  his wife, Ruby McGinnes; his
   2-15  daughter, Billie Doris McGinnes Gladfelter; his son,
   2-16  Lawrence Perry McGinnes; his sister, Dr. Willie Mae McGinnes; his
   2-17  brother, L. B. McGinnes; and his three grandchildren and two
   2-18  great-grandchildren; and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-20  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
   2-21  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
   2-22  so in memory of Virgil Claude McGinnes.
