    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased and
    1-3  proud to congratulate the Cameron County Historical Commission for
    1-4  receiving the Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Historical
    1-5  Commission; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, This coveted award honors county historical and
    1-7  nonprofit heritage organizations that complete a balanced program
    1-8  of tasks and that are leaders in the historic preservation field
    1-9  in their cities and counties; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Cameron County Historical Commission members
   1-11  and volunteers completed the folklife preservation category
   1-12  by organizing the Columbus Quincentennial Celebration; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, They also cleaned and restored an abandoned
   1-14  historical cemetery in the county; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, To fulfill the archaeology classification,
   1-16  commission representatives taped an oral history interview of
   1-17  a recognized archaeologist about his work in South Texas; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Volunteers identified and categorized conditions of
   1-19  historical markers in the county; the commission fulfilled the fifth
   1-20  category by ensuring that it complied with the bylaws and the budget
   1-21  as specified by the Texas Historical Commission; this condition was
   1-22  easily met; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The Cameron County Historical Commission met
    2-1  and exceeded the requirements for earning the Distinguished
    2-2  Service Award; truly it is worthy of legislative recognition;
    2-3  now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-5  73rd Legislature, hereby commend and congratulate the
    2-6  Cameron County Historical Commission on winning the
    2-7  prestigious Distinguished Service Award presented by the
    2-8  Texas Historical Commission for outstanding achievements;
    2-9  and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-11  Cameron County Historical Commission as an expression of high regard
   2-12  from the Texas Senate.
