No. 413 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Birthdays are occasions to be joyously celebrated 1-3 with family and friends, and so it was for Alpha Teague Slawson of 1-4 Georgetown, Texas, on February 21, 1993, when she was the guest of 1-5 honor on her special day; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Well known for her charm, genuineness, and 1-7 generosity of spirit, Mrs. Slawson is a beloved resident of Wesleyan 1-8 Nursing Home where she has lived for four years; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The daughter of Andrew and Martha Teague of 1-10 Florence, Texas, Alpha was born on February 23, 1889, and grew up 1-11 on a farm northwest of Georgetown with her seven siblings; after her 1-12 marriage in 1906 to Moses Lewallen, she helped her husband with farm 1-13 work and raised a family of seven children; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Following the death of her husband, Moses, Alpha 1-15 married Joe Slawson in 1942 and the couple lived happily in Austin 1-16 for 20 years; upon his death, Alpha returned to Georgetown and lived 1-17 alone in her own home until she was 100; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The talented and loving individual made many 1-19 beautiful quilts and quilt tops until a few years ago; the beautiful 1-20 quilts are cherished by her family and friends; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Her zest for living and lively curiosity in all 1-22 around her are undiminished; and 1-23 WHEREAS, One of her chief pleasures is reminiscing about 2-1 days gone by with her large family; she has three living children, 2-2 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 13 2-3 great-great-grandchildren; and 2-4 WHEREAS, A devout Christian lady, Alpha is the oldest 2-5 living member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Florence; and 2-6 WHEREAS, This remarkable woman is truly deserving of the 2-7 long and happy life with which she has been blessed; now, therefore, 2-8 be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 73rd Legislature, hereby declare Mrs. Alpha Teague Slawson a 2-11 treasured citizen of her town and state, wishing her continued 2-12 health and happiness; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-14 this distinguished lady as an expression of the admiration and 2-15 esteem of the Texas Senate. 2-16 _____________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the 2-19 above Resolution was adopted by 2-20 the Senate on March 15, 1993. 2-21 _____________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 _____________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
