1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
1-3 in recognizing Ronald O. Craven who has been selected as the
1-4 Army and Air Force Exchange Service Driver of the Year; and
1-5 WHEREAS, The annual Driver of the Year program acknowledges
1-6 the importance of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service delivery
1-7 fleet; each year, one driver is chosen from hundreds of other
1-8 drivers as the very best among a group of highly qualified
1-9 operators; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Winning the Driver of the Year award means that
1-11 Mr. Craven will win the one-year use of a customized Peterbilt
1-12 tractor with a 45-foot trailer which is fully accessorized for
1-13 the Driver of the Year; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Craven began his Army and Air Force Exchange
1-15 Service career in 1964 as a warehouse worker; in 1969, he began
1-16 working as a substitute driver and by April, 1970, he became a
1-17 permanent Motor Vehicle Operator; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Since 1979, his yearly evaluations have been
1-19 perfect in the driving category as well as in all other areas;
1-20 he has earned the National Safety Council's Safe Driving Award
1-21 for the last 21 years in a row; and
1-22 WHEREAS, A diligent and extremely hardworking driver,
1-23 Ronald Craven has won the admiration and respect of all those
2-1 with whom he works; and
2-2 WHEREAS, Having driven over 2,000,000 accident-free highway
2-3 miles, Mr. Craven has earned the coveted American Trucking
2-4 Association's Million Mile Club award; known as a "switch-point"
2-5 driver, Mr. Craven has performed so well over the years that he
2-6 operates on his own, free to use his decision-making abilities
2-7 to solve myriad problems that he encounters on his day-to-day
2-8 trips; and
2-9 WHEREAS, Highly lauded by his colleagues as well as his
2-10 customers, Mr. Craven's experience and job expertise allow him
2-11 to overcome delivery obstacles and ensure that service is never
2-12 compromised; he is willing to pitch in to help unload his truck
2-13 if a facility is short-handed; he always leaves everyone he meets
2-14 feeling more cheerful; now, therefore, be it
2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of the Texas,
2-16 73rd Legislature, hereby commend Ronald O. Craven on the momentous
2-17 occasion of his being designated Driver of the Year by the Army and
2-18 Air Force Exchange Service; and, be it further
2-19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-20 Mr. Craven as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
