    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                          Thomas J. Griffith
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Lubbock in mourning the loss of Thomas J. Griffith
    1-7  who died February 21, 1993, at the age of 69; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born in Choctaw County, Mississippi, Thomas Griffith
    1-9  graduated from the University of North Carolina and received a law
   1-10  degree from the University of Mississippi; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Deeply patriotic, he served with the United States
   1-12  Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War, retiring with
   1-13  the rank of colonel; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, He was dedicated to his work as an attorney-at-law,
   1-15  practicing in Ackerman, Mississippi, and in Lubbock where he was
   1-16  retained as counsel for the Texas State Teachers Association; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Respected in the community for his many
   1-18  accomplishments, Thomas Griffith was an exemplary gentleman who
   1-19  served as a scoutmaster and was a member of Young Men's Christian
   1-20  Association campaigns; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, A well-known community leader, Mr. Griffith was a
   1-22  former director of the Mental Health Society, the Rape Crisis Center,
   1-23  and West Texas Legal Services; he was a former president of the
    2-1  Lubbock County Bar Association; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
    2-3  gave unselfishly of his time to others; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Thomas Griffith was a member of
    2-5  Grace Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday school; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, His wisdom, warm spirit, and valued counsel will
    2-7  not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Thomas Griffith was a devoted husband and father,
    2-9  and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
   2-10  his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
   2-13  family of Thomas J. Griffith:  his wife, Nancy Ward Griffith; his
   2-14  son, Thomas W. Griffith; his daughters, Sarah Griffith and
   2-15  Susanna Griffith; and his brothers, William P. Griffith and
   2-16  Joe W. Griffith; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-18  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-19  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-20  in memory of Thomas J. Griffith.
