    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                               Ann Ruff
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Houston and Llano in mourning the loss of Ann Ruff
    1-7  who died March 4, 1993; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born in Aberdeen, Mississippi, Ann Ruff moved to
    1-9  Texas in 1950; she graduated from the University of Houston and
   1-10  taught high school English for 13 years; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, She and her late husband, Earl Ruff, once owned
   1-12  and restored the historic Badu House in Llano; she married
   1-13  Richard Wright in 1991; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, A well-known and gifted author and newspaper
   1-15  columnist, Ann Ruff published 14 books on Texas travel including
   1-16  Unsung Heroes of Texas, A Guide to Historic Texas Inns
   1-17  and Hotels, and Texas Bed and Breakfast; she also wrote a
   1-18  monthly travel column for the Houston Chronicle/Texas Magazine;
   1-19  and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Respected in the community for her notable
   1-21  accomplishments, Ann Ruff was an exemplary lady who touched
   1-22  the lives of many; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, In spite of a difficult battle with cancer for
    2-1  17 years, she consistently manifested uncommon concern for others
    2-2  and was sensitive, generous, caring, and befriending; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, A source of strength and joy, Ann Ruff lived her
    2-4  life to the fullest and would not allow her illness to hinder her
    2-5  activities; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, A confidante and mentor to those who needed her,
    2-7  she was intelligent, warmhearted, wise, and compassionate; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Ann Ruff will long be remembered for her courage
    2-9  and creativity, and she was a devoted wife who leaves behind
   2-10  memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many
   2-11  friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-14  bereaved family of Ann Ruff:  her husband, Richard Wright;
   2-15  her mother, Frances Mitchell Watkins; and her sister-in-law,
   2-16  Peggy Watkins; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-18  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
   2-19  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
   2-20  day, it do so in memory of Ann Ruff.
