    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly joins
    1-3  with the residents of the City of Jacksonville in proclaiming
    1-4  Thursday, March 25, 1993, as Jacksonville Day; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Located in East Texas in Cherokee County,
    1-6  Jacksonville is nestled in the midst of the beautiful hills and
    1-7  forests that are found on both sides of U.S. Highway 69; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Originally a post office community established
    1-9  prior to 1849, Jacksonville moved to its present site in 1872
   1-10  when the International-Great Northern Railroad was built; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The city is noted for its spectacular lake scenery
   1-12  and is home to Jacksonville, Palestine, and Striker lakes; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Well known to residents and vacationers are the
   1-14  breathtaking views from Love's Lookout Park which is a popular
   1-15  area for boating, hiking, and picnicking; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Lake Jacksonville has often been rated by area
   1-17  fishermen as one of the best bass lakes in Texas and has a record
   1-18  for a largemouth bass of over 15 pounds; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Although it is a prosperous, growing city,
   1-20  Jacksonville has retained much of its rural charm and natural
   1-21  beauty, and it is surrounded by scenic drives that wind through
   1-22  the picturesque countryside of East Texas; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Jacksonville citizens have a first-class school
    2-1  system, a strong economy, and excellent institutions of higher
    2-2  education--Lon Morris College and Jacksonville Baptist College;
    2-3  and
    2-4        WHEREAS, The residents of Jacksonville deserve credit for
    2-5  helping to preserve the city's amenities and its natural scenic
    2-6  setting; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-8  73rd Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the people of
    2-9  Jacksonville and extend best wishes to them for a joyous
   2-10  Jacksonville Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  the City of Jacksonville as a token of regard from the Texas Senate.
