    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-3  citizens of the town of Culiacan, Mexico, in honoring the world's
    1-4  greatest boxer, Julio Cesar Chavez; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Setting a record unmatched in the annals of
    1-6  boxing, this remarkable athlete has been undefeated for 13 years
    1-7  and 84 matches; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, The reigning World Boxing Council super
    1-9  lightweight champion, he has won five titles in three different
   1-10  weight divisions; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, One of 10 children, Mr. Chavez was born in
   1-12  Culiacan, Mexico, and he and his wife, Amelia, and their three
   1-13  children, Christian, Omar, and Julio, Jr., live there today; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Quitting school at 16, Mr. Chavez began training
   1-15  every day; he drove out to ranches on weekends to fight under
   1-16  arduous conditions for $5 to $6 a fight; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Mr. Chavez's prowess in the ring is awesome; his
   1-18  concentration while engaged with an opponent is absolute; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Mr. Chavez has averaged one match every 57 days
   1-20  throughout his professional career; this unparalled frequency is
   1-21  two to three times that of other famous fighters; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Enduring extremely stressful physical conditioning
   1-23  that includes three to six mile runs and 10 10-meter sprints daily,
    2-1  Mr. Chavez trains himself at a high altitude so that when he fights,
    2-2  his body has more oxygen to burn; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The motivation that impels Julio Chavez to sustain
    2-4  this success is quite simple; he fights to ensure the security of
    2-5  his immediate and extended family; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Fiercely loyal to and protective of his family,
    2-7  Mr. Chavez has felt obligated to support them since he was a child;
    2-8  he was known as "the little father" to his friends and relatives; and
    2-9        WHEREAS,  Mr. Chavez's outstanding success merits legislative
   2-10  recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Julio Cesar Chavez for his
   2-13  impressive record of victories and championships; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-15  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
