No. 504 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-3 recognize Ramon Ayala of Hidalgo for his invaluable contributions 1-4 to Norteno and Tejano music; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Ramon was born in 1945 to Ramon Covarrubias and 1-6 Natalia Garza de Covarrubias; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Ramon showed an interest in music at five years 1-8 old, and his parents, at great personal sacrifice, saved the money 1-9 to buy him an accordion; Ramon's father taught Ramon a few chords 1-10 which he learned immediately; he was soon able to play most of the 1-11 songs of the popular group Los Alegres de Teran; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Ramon began to play the accordion in public by 1-13 going from house to house; and 1-14 WHEREAS, While in school, Ramon began to play seriously 1-15 with a group organized by Father Alvarez; and 1-16 WHEREAS, At the age of 15, Ramon met Cornelio Reyna; they 1-17 soon decided to try to build singing careers on their own and 1-18 eventually decided to come to the United States; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Eventually Cornelio and Ramon were signed to 1-20 record with BEGO records; their first recording under the name 1-21 of Los Relampagos Del Norte started them on their road to 1-22 popularity; the group made 20 LPs together; and 1-23 WHEREAS, In 1971, Cornelio left the group and Ramon formed 2-1 his own group, Los Bravos del Norte, and recorded 16 more LPs; and 2-2 WHEREAS, After 20 years, Ramon Ayala is still the focal 2-3 figure for the group; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Supporting him throughout his career have been 2-5 his wife, Linda, and four children; and 2-6 WHEREAS, A list of his hits should include La Pura Mana, 2-7 Te Traigo Estas Flores, Chaparra De Mi Amor, Andan Diciendo, 2-8 Macario Leyva, and Ensename A Olvidar; Ramon Ayala's musical 2-9 achievements do indeed merit legislative recognition; now, 2-10 therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 73rd Legislature, hereby commend Ramon Ayala on his successful 2-13 music career and express appreciation to him for his contributions 2-14 to Norteno and Tejano music; and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-16 Ramon Ayala as an expression of gratitude and esteem from the 2-17 Texas Senate. 2-18 _____________________________________ 2-19 President of the Senate 2-20 I hereby certify that the 2-21 above Resolution was adopted by 2-22 the Senate on March 25, 1993. 2-23 _____________________________________ 2-24 Secretary of the Senate 2-25 _____________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate
