    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
    1-3  pleasure in recognizing Barbara Tidwell on the momentous occasion of
    1-4  her receiving the Medal of Honor Award from the Southwest Texas State
    1-5  University Alumni; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, In presenting this new award, created specifically
    1-7  for Barbara Tidwell, the alumni association has specified that this
    1-8  recognition be extended to a faculty member who has supported and
    1-9  contributed more to Southwest Texas State University than any other
   1-10  member of the university's faculty; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, A beauty contest judge and former
   1-12  Kilgore Rangerette, Mrs. Tidwell taught at the first drill team
   1-13  clinic in the United States; she originated the concept of the
   1-14  Southwest Texas Strutters and for the past 33 years has devoted
   1-15  herself to training over 2,000 Strutters; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Barbara Tidwell has distinguished herself as a
   1-17  foremost teacher and trainer during her illustrious career at
   1-18  Southwest Texas State University; she was first accorded national
   1-19  recognition when her Strutters marched in John F. Kennedy's
   1-20  inaugural parade in 1961; they reappeared four years later in the
   1-21  Lyndon B. Johnson inaugural parade; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, An avid booster of her university, Mrs. Tidwell
   1-23  has recruited many highly talented young women; she has always
    2-1  managed to obtain good press coverage for her drill teams; the
    2-2  Strutters have performed at half time during the All-American
    2-3  Pro Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, the National Football League play-off
    2-4  games, and Dallas Cowboy and Houston Oiler football games; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Barbara Tidwell has taken her Strutters to
    2-6  performances in countries and cities all over the world, including
    2-7  Mexico, Korea, China, and Hong Kong and this superbly trained drill
    2-8  team has never missed a home Bobcat football game; such dedication
    2-9  truly merits legislative recognition for Barbara Tidwell; now,
   2-10  therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate and commend Barbara Tidwell
   2-13  for all her contributions to Southwest Texas State University and
   2-14  wish her continued success in the future; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-16  her as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
