No. 508 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the friends 1-3 and family of Olaya Lizette Solis in congratulatiing her for winning 1-4 the 40th annual Nueces County Spelling Bee on March 6, 1993; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The 12-year-old daughter of 1-6 Mr. and Mrs. Santiago Solis, Lizette attends Most Precious Blood 1-7 Catholic School in Corpus Christi; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Competing against 73 other elementary and middle 1-9 school students in the spelldown, Lizette outlasted all other 1-10 opponents as the field of competitors was narrowed to a final 1-11 two; Lizette triumphed with the correct spelling of "gustatory" 1-12 and "monotony"; and 1-13 WHEREAS, An excellent speller since her kindergarten days, 1-14 the sixth grader studied two hours each day with her mother to 1-15 prepare for the orthography contest; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Lizette will compete against other area winners in 1-17 Texas on April 3 to determine who will attend the National Spelling 1-18 Bee in Washington, D.C., on May 30 to June 5; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The accomplished student enjoys reading and dancing 1-20 as well as playing with her dog, Chimbo; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-22 73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Olaya Lizette Solis 1-23 on her splendid accomplishment and extend best wishes for her 2-1 continued success; and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-3 delightful young lady as a token of the admiration and high regard 2-4 of the Texas Senate. 2-5 _____________________________________ 2-6 President of the Senate 2-7 I hereby certify that the 2-8 above Resolution was adopted by 2-9 the Senate on March 30, 1993. 2-10 _____________________________________ 2-11 Secretary of the Senate 2-12 _____________________________________ 2-13 Member, Texas Senate
