    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           J. E. Blakey, Jr.
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Lubbock, Texas, in mourning the loss of
    1-7  J. E. Blakey, Jr., who died February 20, 1993, at the age of 75; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, The well-known rancher and community leader will
    1-9  be remembered for the affection, confidence, and loyalty he inspired
   1-10  in those with whom he was associated; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Throughout his long life Mr. Blakey took an interest
   1-12  in the welfare and progress of his community; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The native Texan was born in Temple and graduated
   1-14  from Snyder High School; he attended The University of Texas and
   1-15  married Estine Dorward in Snyder on August 30, 1940; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, A rancher in Garza County for many years,
   1-17  Mr. Blakey moved with his family to Lubbock from Justiceburg in
   1-18  1940; he worked for Bell Dairy and served with distinction as a
   1-19  trustee of the Lubbock Independent School District from 1956
   1-20  until 1962; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Mr. Blakey was a dedicated Christian layman who
   1-22  lived his faith in his daily life and was an active member of the
   1-23  First United Methodist Church of Lubbock; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, He leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment that
    2-2  will be remembered with gratitude by all who were fortunate to know
    2-3  him; now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-5  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
    2-6  members of J. E. Blakey, Jr.:  his wife, Estine; his sons,
    2-7  John C. and James E. Blakey; his daughter, Carolyn E. Blakey; his
    2-8  brothers, Charles and Richard Blakey; his sister, Nan Kiefer; and
    2-9  his two grandsons; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-11  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
   2-12  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
   2-13  so in memory of J. E. Blakey, Jr.
