    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  congratulate Maggie Mae's on the momentous occasion of its 15th
    1-4  anniversary; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Opening in 1978 as a small traditional pub at
    1-6  323 East Sixth Street, Maggie Mae's was owned and operated by
    1-7  brothers Danny and Bill Shea; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, This original tavern was 1,600 square feet and
    1-9  featured traditional music; over the years, Maggie Mae's clientele
   1-10  expanded, and in 1984 this delightful neighborhood bistro increased
   1-11  in size to include the area at 325 East Sixth Street and incorporate
   1-12  live rock and roll bands and dancing into its operation; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, A prominent part of the historical district on
   1-14  East Sixth Street, Maggie Mae's has continually sought to preserve
   1-15  the old world ambiance that characterizes the downtown area of
   1-16  Sixth Street; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, In 1990 Maggie Mae's acquired the spaces at
   1-18  319 and 321 East Sixth Street and grew to its present size; in 1991
   1-19  a rooftop patio and deck were added that afforded a delightful view
   1-20  of the downtown Austin skyline; the new area is over 5,000 square
   1-21  feet; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Well-known throughout Austin, Maggie Mae's has
   1-23  built a huge and loyal clientele during the 15 years it has been in
    2-1  operation; it is an Austin institution that truly merits legislative
    2-2  recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-4  73rd Legislature, hereby commend Maggie Mae's for its grand
    2-5  tradition of entertainment with live music in a historical atmosphere;
    2-6  and, be it further
    2-7        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-8  Maggie Mae's as an expression of best wishes for many more profitable
    2-9  years to come from the Texas Senate.
