No. 531 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Clark Elementary School in Laredo, Texas, 1-3 is celebrating its 20th anniversary on April 3, 1993, and the 1-4 Texas Senate is pleased to extend congratulations on this noteworthy 1-5 occasion; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A reunion dinner at the school will bring together 1-7 the first principal, Charleen Brinkley, and teachers who so loyally 1-8 served the school in its initial years; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The opening of Clark Elementary School in 1973 1-10 was marked by several firsts in education; it was the first open 1-11 concept school and had the first bilingual program started under 1-12 Dolores Earles; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Committed to providing the best possible 1-14 education for its students, Clark Elementary School is recognized 1-15 as a school that focuses on academic achievement; of the 803 third 1-16 graders in the United Independent School District who took the Texas 1-17 Assessment of Academic Skills in English, six students who received 1-18 academic recognition were from Clark Elementary School; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The school has demonstrated steady and 1-20 consistent growth above the state average in Texas Assessment of 1-21 Academic Skills testing; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Under the guidance of Principal Richard Perales, 1-23 who has ably served in that capacity since 1985, Clark Elementary 2-1 School has grown steadily in enrollment to 945 students; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The school has become an integral part of the city 2-3 and is used as a central meeting place for various community 2-4 ventures; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in all its 2-6 endeavors, Clark Elementary School is involved in the International 2-7 Gifted and Talented Curriculum Program with Moscow, Russia; now, 2-8 therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 73rd Legislature, hereby recognize Clark Elementary School on its 2-11 20th anniversary and extend best wishes for a most rewarding future; 2-12 and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be presented to the 2-14 school as a memento of this important milestone and as an expression 2-15 of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-16 _____________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the 2-19 above Resolution was adopted by 2-20 the Senate on April 1, 1993. 2-21 _____________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 _____________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
