No. 532 Zaffirini, Barrientos, Truan 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, For more than 20 years, the students of 1-3 The University of Texas School of Law have enjoyed a warm and 1-4 amicable relationship with the students of the University of 1-5 Guanajuato School of Law in Guanajuato, Mexico; and 1-6 WHEREAS, This mutually beneficial friendship culminates 1-7 each year in an exchange program in which a group of 1-8 University of Texas law students travels to Mexico to enjoy the 1-9 beauty and splendor of the historic city of Guanajuato; in 1-10 addition, the students attend lectures at the University of 1-11 Guanajuato, one of the most prestigious law schools in Mexico, 1-12 and learn about Mexican law; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Located in the mountains northwest of Mexico City 1-14 near one of the richest veins of silver in the hemisphere, 1-15 Guanajuato was founded by the Spanish in 1548 and recently was 1-16 declared a national historic monument; the city is noted for its 1-17 picturesque winding streets and graceful Spanish architecture, and 1-18 among the city's many fine museums and historical sites is the home 1-19 of Diego Rivera, the celebrated Mexican artist and muralist; and 1-20 WHEREAS, For many of the Texas students, the most enjoyable 1-21 aspect of the trip is the friendship and hospitality of their 1-22 Mexican hosts, and they are given an opportunity to repay that 1-23 generosity in kind when the Mexican law students travel to Austin 2-1 to learn about the law and culture of Texas and the United States; 2-2 again, the visiting students are matched with hosts, who entertain 2-3 their guests and introduce them to the unique culture and style of 2-4 the Lone Star State; and 2-5 WHEREAS, This program is an outstanding example of the 2-6 amity between Texas and Mexico that surely will continue and prosper 2-7 with the adoption of the North American Free Trade Agreement; as we 2-8 open our borders to unprecedented economic exchange, we have the 2-9 opportunity to increase our understanding of our cultures and 2-10 histories and to expand on the precedents established by this 2-11 exchange program to usher in a new age of international cooperation; 2-12 now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 73rd Legislature, hereby commend the faculty and students 2-15 participating in the exchange program between The University of Texas 2-16 and University of Guanajuato law schools and extend to them warmest 2-17 best wishes for many more years of continued success; and, 2-18 be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 2-20 prepared for the program's organizers as an expression of high 2-21 regard from the Texas Senate. 2-22 ______________________________ _______________________________ 2-23 Member, Texas Senate Member, Texas Senate 2-24 ______________________________ _______________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate Member, Texas Senate 3-1 ______________________________ _______________________________ 3-2 Member, Texas Senate Member, Texas Senate 3-3 _______________________________ 3-4 President of the Senate 3-5 I hereby certify that the 3-6 above Resolution was adopted by 3-7 the Senate on April 1, 1993. 3-8 _______________________________ 3-9 Secretary of the Senate
