    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is especially
    1-3  proud to recognize the Milliken Middle School of Flower Mound, Texas,
    1-4  for being selected as one of 22 Texas exemplary school winners in the
    1-5  United States Department of Education National Secondary Blue Ribbon
    1-6  Schools Recognition Program; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, The purpose of the Secondary School Recognition
    1-8  Program is to identify and give public recognition to outstanding
    1-9  public and private secondary schools across the United States; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Milliken Middle School was identified on the basis
   1-11  of its effectiveness in meeting local, state, and national education
   1-12  goals as well as other standards of quality applicable to secondary
   1-13  schools generally; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, One of the important considerations to winning
   1-15  is the school's success in furthering the intellectual, social,
   1-16  physical, and moral growth of all its students; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, In being recognized, a school must present clear
   1-18  evidence that its students are developing a solid foundation of
   1-19  skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, as well as reasoning
   1-20  and problem solving; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, To merit recognition, the instructional
   1-22  program should provide all students with high-quality instruction
   1-23  appropriate to their age and ability in literature, history,
    2-1  geography, science, the arts, and other subjects the school
    2-2  district or the state deems important; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The school must show convincing evidence that
    2-4  school policies, programs, and practices foster the development
    2-5  of sound character, a sense of self-worth, democratic values,
    2-6  ethical judgment, and self-discipline; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, To deserve recognition, the school should
    2-8  demonstrate strong leadership and an effective working
    2-9  relationship among the school, parents, and others in the
   2-10  community; the atmosphere surrounding the school should be
   2-11  orderly, purposeful, and conducive to learning and character
   2-12  development; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, Principal Barbara Stagner, teachers, students,
   2-14  and staff at Milliken Middle School are truly deserving of the
   2-15  splendid honor bestowed on them for meeting the high standards
   2-16  of performance required by the United States Department of
   2-17  Education and for their magnificent efforts to provide the best
   2-18  possible education for each individual student; now, therefore,
   2-19  be it
   2-20        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-21  73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Milliken Middle
   2-22  School for its overall excellence that is worthy of respect and
   2-23  emulation by schools of similar size and characteristics; and,
   2-24  be it further
   2-25        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    3-1  the principal and faculty of Milliken Middle School as an expression
    3-2  of the admiration and esteem of the Texas Senate.
