    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize the faculty, staff, and students of Christa McAuliffe
    1-4  Elementary School of Lewisville Independent School District for
    1-5  earning the designation National School of Excellence by the
    1-6  United States Department of Education; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, McAuliffe Elementary School is one of 25 public
    1-8  and private schools in Texas to win this coveted honor; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The United States Department of Education paid a
   1-10  two-day visit to the school to investigate whether or not
   1-11  McAuliffe Elementary should be named a national exemplary
   1-12  school; the investigators interviewed parents and administrators,
   1-13  visited classes, and talked with building leadership teams; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Teachers at the school give much of the credit to
   1-15  Principal Mary Ann Ritchie who inspires them to achieve excellence;
   1-16  it is generally acknowledged that the teachers at the school give
   1-17  so much of themselves that team effort is what makes this a blue
   1-18  ribbon school; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, For a school to be recognized, there must be clear
   1-20  evidence that its students are developing a solid foundation in
   1-21  reading, writing, mathematics, reasoning, and problem solving; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, There must also be convincing evidence that school
   1-23  policies, programs, and practices foster the development of sound
    2-1  character, self-discipline, ethical judgment, democratic values,
    2-2  and a sense of self-worth among its students; all these qualities
    2-3  are present in the program at Christa McAuliffe Elementary School;
    2-4  now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate and commend Principal
    2-7  Mary Ann Ritchie, the faculty, staff, and students of
    2-8  Christa McAuliffe Elementary School on winning the designation
    2-9  National School of Excellence by the United States Department of
   2-10  Education; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  Christa McAuliffe Elementary School as an expression of esteem
   2-13  and admiration from the Texas Senate.
