No. 549 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Dr. William David Pittman 1-5 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Dr. William David Pittman 1-6 of Mexia mourned his death on December 22, 1992; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A native son of Texas, this distinguished gentleman 1-8 was born on February 9, 1929; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A true patriot, Dr. Pittman honorably served his 1-10 country in the United States Army during the Korean War; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A man of great ability and unquestioned integrity, 1-12 Dr. Pittman had been named Optometrist of the Year in 1984 by the 1-13 Texas Optometric Association and in 1987 by the American 1-14 Optometric Association; in 1989 he was the recipient of the Texas 1-15 Optometric Association's highest award, the Distinguished Service 1-16 Award; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman generously donated his time and talents 1-18 to numerous professional organizations; he was chairman of the 1-19 American Optometric Association's State Legislative Affairs 1-20 Committee and a member of the Executive Committee of the American 1-21 Optometric Association's Member Services Center; this renowned 1-22 and respected medical man further contributed to his profession as 1-23 co-chairman of the Legal and Legislative Committee of the Texas 2-1 Optometric Association and vice-president and state programs 2-2 chairman of the Texas Society to Prevent Blindness; in addition, 2-3 he was twice selected as a governor's appointee to the Texas 2-4 Optometry Board of Examiners; and 2-5 WHEREAS, An affectionate and loyal friend to his colleagues, 2-6 Dr. Pittman was always there to provide support and encouragement 2-7 for them; a man who was comfortable with others in any 2-8 circumstances, Dr. Pittman was as relaxed sitting in 2-9 Speaker Gib Lewis's office discussing legislation as he was 2-10 telling jokes at deer camp; his presence will be greatly missed; 2-11 and 2-12 WHEREAS, Well known as an activist in his community, 2-13 Dr. Pittman faithfully addressed the needs of his fellow citizens 2-14 as Mayor of Mexia, Mexia City Commissioner, president of the Mexia 2-15 Rotary Club, and president of the Mexia Chamber of Commerce; and 2-16 WHEREAS, A sincere and dedicated Christian layman, 2-17 Dr. Pittman was a Sunday school teacher and deacon at the First 2-18 Baptist Church; and 2-19 WHEREAS, His memory will remain forever in the hearts and 2-20 minds of all who knew him; now, therefore, be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-22 73rd Legislature, hereby extend heartfelt sympathy to the members 2-23 of his family: his wife, Patsy Coffman Pittman; his son and 2-24 daughter-in-law, Wesley E. and Kathy Pittman; his daughter 2-25 and son-in-law, Laurie and Robert Hurst; his sister, 3-1 Mary Emma Montgomery; and his grandchildren, Robert Pat, 3-2 Christopher Duke, Lou Ellen Hurst, and Wesley "Duke" Pittman; and, 3-3 be it further 3-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 3-5 for the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy 3-6 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, 3-7 it do so in memory of Dr. William David Pittman. 3-8 _____________________________________ 3-9 President of the Senate 3-10 I hereby certify that the 3-11 above Resolution was adopted by 3-12 the Senate on April 5, 1993, 3-13 by a rising vote. 3-14 _____________________________________ 3-15 Secretary of the Senate 3-16 _____________________________________ 3-17 Member, Texas Senate
