No. 553 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Rockdale High School Golden Girls have 1-3 outshone all their competition to become the top drill team in the 1-4 United States for 1993, and the Texas Senate is especially proud to 1-5 congratulate them on their superb accomplishments; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Celebrating their 10th year at Rockdale High School, 1-7 the Golden Girls are a source of great pride for their school, their 1-8 families and friends, and the City of Rockdale; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The Golden Girls' superb showmanship and precise 1-10 routines during their contest season captured the attention of all 1-11 those who attended the events where they won "Grand Sweepstakes" 1-12 each time; and 1-13 WHEREAS, At the National Drill Team competition held at 1-14 Southwest Texas State University in February, the Golden Girls were 1-15 also awarded the coveted "Most Entertaining Drill Team" of the entire 1-16 competition and "Outstanding 3A Team" with their prop and military 1-17 routines; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Golden Girl Officers Erica Phillips, 1-19 Kelly Shoemake, Julie Betchan, Jennifer Keen, and Staci Davis were 1-20 awarded a Sweepstakes trophy for receiving a Division I rating in 1-21 each of their presentations; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Receiving top ratings on all their routines at the 1-23 Showmakers of America Competition held in San Antonio in March, 1993, 2-1 the Golden Girls swept highest honors in all categories; they also 2-2 received a "Judges Award" for receiving a Division I on all routines 2-3 and for Class 3A were named "Best in Class" for their military, prop, 2-4 and kick routines; the Golden Girl Officers received "Sweepstakes" 2-5 and superior ratings on each of their performances; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Adding color and excitement to the football games 2-7 this season, the girls entertained the crowds and were given 2-8 standing ovations for their remarkable shows; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Their highly successful year is a tribute to the 2-10 girls' exceptional talent, hard work, and dedication; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Before and after school, the drill team devoted 2-12 many hours to practicing fundamental skills; these outstanding 2-13 athletes are in the excellent physical condition that is necessary 2-14 to compete at the highest levels; and 2-15 WHEREAS, Their dynamic director, Mrs. Rowena Ortega, has 2-16 spent countless hours of her own time working with the girls and has 2-17 supported and encouraged each one; and 2-18 WHEREAS, Director Ortega and Golden Girls Erica Phillips, 2-19 Kelly Shoemake, Julie Betchan, Jennifer Keen, Staci Davis, 2-20 Becky Dixon, Rhonda Hefferman, Corey Fartheree, Lamar Burns, 2-21 Jessica Gutierrez, Melissa Freeman, Nancy Noles, Jamie Cohn, 2-22 Erika Lange, Kari Etheridge, Shellea Cleveland, Resha Dixon, 2-23 Rosie Johnson, Lindsey Kruse, Gina Doss, Christy Williams, 2-24 Zena Baban, Amanda Hodson, Crystal Roderick, Rebecca Gerren, 2-25 Erica Doss, Amy Retchloff, Robyn Kerlin, and manager Rachel Davenport 3-1 are to be highly commended for their remarkable accomplishments; now, 3-2 therefore, be it 3-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-4 73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the Rockdale High 3-5 School Golden Girls for their exemplary contributions to their 3-6 school and their community; and, be it further 3-7 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 3-8 Golden Girls as an expression of the high esteem of the Texas Senate 3-9 with best wishes for much success in the future. 3-10 _____________________________________ 3-11 President of the Senate 3-12 I hereby certify that the 3-13 above Resolution was adopted by 3-14 the Senate on April 5, 1993. 3-15 _____________________________________ 3-16 Secretary of the Senate 3-17 _____________________________________ 3-18 Member, Texas Senate
