    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                          A. R. Sanchez, Sr.
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of esteemed business and
    1-7  civic leader A. R. Sanchez, Sr., who died on April 19, 1992, at
    1-8  the age of 75; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Born August 27, 1916, in Laredo, Texas, Mr. Sanchez
   1-10  gallantly served in the United States Air Force during World War II;
   1-11  he owned and operated an office equipment business in Laredo for 20
   1-12  years before becoming active in the oil and gas business as a lease
   1-13  broker; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, An expert in his field, Mr. Sanchez was one of the
   1-15  first oilmen to start development in the Northwest Webb County-Encinal
   1-16  play; he later developed one of the most significant gas discoveries
   1-17  in the last 30 years, the Webb and Zapata County Lobo Trend; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, From 1974 until the time of his death, Mr. Sanchez
   1-19  was a co-owner and the Chairman of the Board of the successful
   1-20  Sanchez O'Brien Oil and Gas Corporation of Laredo and Houston that
   1-21  deals with the exploration, development, and operation of oil and gas
   1-22  properties; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, An amazingly astute and talented businessman,
    2-1  Mr. Sanchez was also Director and Chairman of the Board of the
    2-2  International Bank of Commerce of Laredo and of its subsidiaries
    2-3  in San Antonio, McAllen, Edinburg, Rio Grande City, Weslaco,
    2-4  Harlingen, Shary, Mission, Zapata, and Brownsville; he was Chairman
    2-5  of the Board and a co-owner and active participator in the
    2-6  Sanchez-O'Brien Petroleum Group, the Sanchez Cattle Company, and
    2-7  Sanchez-Investment, Incorporated; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, A. R. Sanchez was a distinguished and exemplary
    2-9  gentleman and was highly respected in his community and by people
   2-10  across the state for his exceptional accomplishments; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
   2-12  gave willingly of his time and energy to help others; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, Mr. Sanchez will long be remembered as a man of
   2-14  adventure, charm, warmth, and intelligence who lived his life to the
   2-15  fullest; and
   2-16        WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, this beloved
   2-17  gentleman leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
   2-18  his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-19        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-20  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
   2-21  family of A. R. Sanchez, Sr.:  his wife, Alicia Marroquin; his
   2-22  children, Tony, Jr., George, and Iris; and his six grandchildren;
   2-23  and, be it further
   2-24        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-25  the members of his family as an expression of the deepest sympathy
    3-1  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
    3-2  it do so in memory of A. R. Sanchez, Sr.
