    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is greatly pleased
    1-3  to honor well-known radio personality Victor Lara Ortegon; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Victor Lara Ortegon was born in Candela, Coahuila,
    1-5  Mexico, on September 9, 1928; when he was four years old his family
    1-6  sought better educational opportunities and moved to Nuevo Laredo
    1-7  where he completed his primary and secondary education and attended
    1-8  a vocational school to learn the English language; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, While he was young his family lived across the
   1-10  street from a radio station and Victor was fascinated by radio
   1-11  broadcasting; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Victor's first regular job was with the Tex-Mex
   1-13  Railroad Company, registering all the railroad cars that went into
   1-14  Mexico; he started working part time as a radio announcer with
   1-15  radio station XEFE in Nuevo Laredo; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, A bright and ambitious young man, Mr. Lara Ortegon
   1-17  met his future wife, Hortencia Puentes, while broadcasting a
   1-18  bullfight on XEFE radio in Nuevo Laredo in 1948; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Victor and Hortencia were married a year later and
   1-20  are the proud parents of Victor Lara, Jr., and the proud
   1-21  grandparents of two wonderful grandchildren; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, On May 31, 1953, Mr. Lara Ortegon began his
   1-23  broadcast career with KUNO radio in Corpus Christi; this spring, he
    2-1  will celebrate his 40th anniversary with KUNO radio as newscaster,
    2-2  director, and commentator for his beloved station; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, In 1955, Mr. Lara Ortegon inaugurated the remarkably
    2-4  successful noon radio talk show, "Comentarios En La Esquina"; this
    2-5  radio program has sustained its popularity throughout the years;
    2-6  the success of his radio programs has made Victor Lara Ortegon a
    2-7  widely acclaimed personality; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Active in the Corpus Christi community,
    2-9  Mr. Lara Ortegon served the Corpus Christi Independent School
   2-10  District as a member of the Textbook Selection Committee and as a
   2-11  board member of the Adult Education Center; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, His wisdom and talents benefitted his fellow citizens
   2-13  when he served as a board member of the City Library System, City
   2-14  Charter Revision Commission, and the Advisory Board of the Police
   2-15  Academy; now, therefore, be it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-17  73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate and commend Victor Lara Ortegon
   2-18  for his important contributions to the citizens of his community and
   2-19  his state; and, be it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-21  Mr. Lara Ortegon as an expression of esteem and appreciation from
   2-22  the Texas Senate.
