    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
    1-3  pleasure in commending the Honorable Sarah Ryan who was recently
    1-4  named the 1993 Public Citizen of the Year by the Brazos Valley
    1-5  Unit of the National Association of Social Workers; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Judge Ryan has contributed immeasurably to the
    1-7  citizens of the area through her leadership and active concern
    1-8  for programs that affect vulnerable members of her community; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Recognized for her involvement in services to
   1-10  children and families, she has been an advocate for the prevention
   1-11  and treatment of child abuse and neglect as well as for adequate
   1-12  medical and mental health care for those in need; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Judge Ryan has devoted considerable time to other
   1-14  civic and cultural activities including Habitat for Humanity, Bryan
   1-15  Rotary Club, Brazos Valley Heritage Society, and Friends Association
   1-16  of the Symphony Orchestra; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, To help develop greater understanding and improve
   1-18  professional relations, Judge Ryan served as co-director of a
   1-19  symposium entitled "Mental Health and the Law" presented in
   1-20  College Station in 1992 to area lawyers and mental health
   1-21  professionals; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Respected for her commitment and integrity,
   1-23  Judge Ryan has been diligent and able in the performance of her
    2-1  duties and has earned the admiration and respect of those who work
    2-2  with her; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The citizens of the Brazos Valley and the
    2-4  State of Texas have benefitted immeasurably from the concern and
    2-5  care Judge Ryan has given to so many; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Judge Sarah Ryan for being
    2-8  named 1993 Public Citizen of the Year and express its gratitude
    2-9  to her for her vital contributions and visionary leadership; and,
   2-10  be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  the eminent judge as an expression of the high regard of the
   2-13  Texas Senate.
