    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                              Sol Bunnell
    1-5        WHEREAS, The City of Taylor mourned the passing of
    1-6  Sol Bunnell, one of the city's most beloved citizens, who died
    1-7  February 26, 1993, at the age of 78; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Mr. Bunnell was well known among Taylor residents
    1-9  for his invaluable contributions to the community; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Born on October 30, 1914, Sol Bunnell was the son
   1-11  of Frank M. and Winifred Yakey Bunnell and the descendent of two
   1-12  early Taylor families who came to the area in the late 1880s; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, He graduated from Taylor High School and the
   1-14  University of Oklahoma where he earned a degree in geology;
   1-15  Mr. Bunnell pursued a career in geology in the oil fields of
   1-16  West Texas with the Humble Oil and Refining Company; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, After his retirement he returned to Taylor to take
   1-18  over the farming operations of his father and grandfather, and he
   1-19  became deeply involved in community activities; he was named
   1-20  Master Farmer of the Taylor area in 1970; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, In addition to his business responsibilities,
   1-22  Mr. Bunnell took great interest in civic organizations devoted
   1-23  to the betterment of Taylor; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, A longtime member of the Rotary Club, Mr. Bunnell
    2-2  sponsored the Bunnell-Rotary Scholarship that provides college
    2-3  assistance to a Taylor High School graduate chosen by the Rotary
    2-4  Club; he was honored by its members in 1992 when he was selected
    2-5  to the Rotary District 5870 Roll of Fame; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, In the 1960s he was a member of the County Draft
    2-7  Board of the Selective Service Administration and a member of the
    2-8  County Appraisal Review Board in the 1980s; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, A dedicated Christian layman, Sol Bunnell was
   2-10  ordained an elder in the First Presbyterian Church and worked
   2-11  faithfully for its members; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, His wise counsel and sound judgment will be deeply
   2-13  missed and remembered with gratitude by the citizens of Taylor;
   2-14  now, therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-16  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to his
   2-17  bereaved family:  his wife, Margaret; his sister,
   2-18  Nancy Bunnell Bentley and her husband, Jeff; and his nephews,
   2-19  Jeffrey Bentley and James Vernon Bentley; and, be it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-21  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
   2-22  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
   2-23  day, it do so in memory of Sol Bunnell.
