By: Turner S.R. No. 578 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 W. K. "Bill" Walters 1-5 WHEREAS, The death of W. K. "Bill" Walters of Crockett, Texas, 1-6 on February 28, 1993, at the age of 71, was greatly mourned by his 1-7 fellow residents; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A respected member of his community, Mr. Walters 1-9 will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his friends, 1-10 and his city; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Bill Walters, 1-12 with his wife, Mady, had lived in Crockett since 1986, where they 1-13 became involved in civic affairs; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Walters served his country with valor during 1-15 World War II in the United States Army; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A dedicated and diligent administrator, he was a 1-17 retired sales manager for an electronics company; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Walters devoted much of his time and energies 1-19 to the betterment of the community and was involved in several 1-20 projects; he worked tirelessly to provide an orderly system for 1-21 street names and house numbers and on the Solid Waste Task Force 1-22 to adopt mandatory recycling; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Interested in good municipal government, he was 2-1 involved in the Crockett Citizens for Progress group that backed 2-2 candidates for the city council; and 2-3 WHEREAS, As county chairman of the American Red Cross, 2-4 Bill Walters demonstrated a rare spirit of caring and compassion 2-5 by assisting people who needed help after the Trinity River 2-6 overflowed; and 2-7 WHEREAS, He leaves a legacy of accomplishment and commitment 2-8 that will be cherished by those who lived and worked with him; now, 2-9 therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-12 family members of W. K. "Bill" Walters: his wife, Mady; his 2-13 children, Merrylyn and Danny F. Thornton and Gregory Douglas 2-14 and Katie Walters; his grandchildren, Lauren Lacy Thornton and 2-15 Douglas Allen Walters; and his brother and sister-in-law, 2-16 Franklin R. and Charlotte Walters; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-18 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from 2-19 the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, 2-20 it do so in memory of W. K.
