    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to join with the citizens
    1-3  of Lake Jackson in recognizing the city's 50th anniversary; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, This special day is an appropriate occasion for
    1-5  the Texas Senate to recognize the important contributions that
    1-6  Lake Jackson and its citizens have made and continue to make to
    1-7  the state's greatness; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Founded as a model community in 1941 for Dow
    1-9  Chemical Company war workers, Lake Jackson was incorporated on
   1-10  March 14, 1943; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Named after the small oxbow lake on the antebellum
   1-12  plantation of Major Abner Jackson, visitors can still see the ruins
   1-13  of the old plantation and a sugar mill; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, This charming community is widely known for the
   1-15  names of its streets such as Any Way, This Way, and That Way;
   1-16  the town is also the home of Brazosport College; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Lake Jackson's chief asset remains its warm and
   1-18  hospitable citizens who open their hearts and homes to the city's
   1-19  welcomed visitors; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Adding to the city's desirability are Dow Park
   1-21  and Wilderness Park, which boasts a four-mile hiking trail and
   1-22  spots for picnicking and fishing; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The site chosen to be the location of the
    2-1  City of Lake Jackson was picked because it afforded protection
    2-2  from gulf storms and it was at an elevation which made possible
    2-3  good drainage; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, A totally planned community, the streets are laid
    2-5  out so that all roads lead to the center of town; the curved
    2-6  streets lend individuality to every city lot; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, For five years the community has won the
    2-8  Governor's Community Achievement Award; for 11 years this
    2-9  outstanding city has garnered the title Tree City, U.S.A.; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, An attractive residential community, Lake Jackson
   2-11  is an eminently livable city; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, The community spirit in Lake Jackson, especially
   2-13  as exhibited during this happy time, is understandable and the
   2-14  residents have made it one of the outstanding cities of this state;
   2-15  now, therefore, be it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-17  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere best wishes to the citizens
   2-18  of Lake Jackson for a memorable celebration; and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-20  the City of Lake Jackson as a memento of this auspicious occasion.
