No. 604 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with 1-3 the residents of Hood County in declaring April 14, 1993, as 1-4 Hood County Day in Austin; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A county of rural charm and natural beauty, 1-6 Hood County is known for its rolling grasslands and majestic 1-7 pecan and post oak trees; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Located on the Grand Prairie of North Central 1-9 Texas, Hood County was founded and organized in 1866 and named 1-10 for John Bell Hood, a general in the United States Army; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Prior to the founding of the county, the region was 1-12 besieged by Comanche and Kiowa Indian raids; Comanche Peak, in the 1-13 south central part of the county, was an important sentinel post in 1-14 the Indian period; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A popular area for fishing and water recreation, Lake 1-16 Granbury adds to the county's scenic beauty and appeal, offering 103 1-17 miles of shoreline, relaxing vistas, and record-sized catfish and 1-18 bass; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The county seat of Granbury is home to the Granbury 1-20 Opera House of well-known Victorian charm and the historic 1-21 Hood County jail built in 1885; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The county is blessed with a wealth of natural 1-23 resources and a bountiful harvest of crops, including peanuts, 2-1 pecans, cotton, and oats, and residents have continued with the 2-2 Texas tradition of land cultivation and ranching; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Hood County Day in Austin is an annual event 2-4 anticipated by the members of the Texas Senate; the day brings 2-5 together old friends and families who gather in celebration of 2-6 the county's past and its many assets today which are enjoyed by 2-7 vacationers and residents of all ages; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-9 73rd Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Hood County for 2-10 the care they have taken to preserve its beauty and amenities and 2-11 extend best wishes to them for a joyous Hood County Day; and, be 2-12 it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-14 residents of Hood County as a token of regard from the Texas Senate. 2-15 _____________________________________ 2-16 President of the Senate 2-17 I hereby certify that the 2-18 above Resolution was adopted by 2-19 the Senate on April 13, 1993. 2-20 _____________________________________ 2-21 Secretary of the Senate 2-22 _____________________________________ 2-23 Member, Texas Senate
