No. 613 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, "Bess Brannen Proud Day" on April 16, 1993, honors 1-3 Bess Brannen Elementary School in Lake Jackson, Texas, and its 1-4 students, staff, and parents, for their magnificent contributions 1-5 to their state and nation; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The elementary school recently won second place 1-7 awards in the "Keep Texas Beautiful" and "Keep America Beautiful" 1-8 competitions; and 1-9 WHEREAS, April is designated as National Youth Leadership 1-10 Month and Bess Brannen Elementary School won the prestigious awards 1-11 for stressing individual responsibility, positive citizenship, and 1-12 improvements in the environment of the school and the city; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Embracing the slogan, "A Clean and Beautiful 1-14 School....A Clean and Beautiful Me," the students are keeping 1-15 their school environment a healthy, happy place while maintaining 1-16 a drug-free school by knowing how to "Just Say No"; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Working cooperatively with the Lake Jackson Clean 1-18 City Commission in their "Clean and Green" campaigns, the 710 1-19 students are involved in tree plantings, school and citywide 1-20 clean-ups, and recycling efforts; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Lake Jackson is celebrating its 50th birthday in 1-22 1993 and the Bess Brannen students participated in the citywide 1-23 clean-up, winning first place for the most participants and for 2-1 the most CHICKEN/DARE Club bags of trash collected; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Representing a cross-section of cultural and economic 2-3 levels, Bess Brannen Elementary students have pride in themselves, 2-4 their school, their city and state, and their country; now, 2-5 therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Bess Brannen Elementary 2-8 School for its outstanding success in improving the environment 2-9 of the school and the city and for its role in developing good 2-10 citizens for the future; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-12 Bess Brannen Elementary School as an expression of the admiration 2-13 and appreciation of the Texas Senate. 2-14 _____________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the 2-17 above Resolution was adopted by 2-18 the Senate on April 14, 1993. 2-19 _____________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 _____________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
