    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize the new
    1-3  Texas Sports Hall of Fame which is celebrating its grand opening
    1-4  in Waco on April 16, l993; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Incorporating several halls of fame including the
    1-6  Texas Tennis Museum and Hall of Fame, the Texas High School Halls
    1-7  of Fame, the Texas High School Coaches Association, the Texas
    1-8  Sports Writers Hall of Fame, and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame
    1-9  Foundation in Dallas, the new Texas Sports Hall of Fame will be
   1-10  a major tourist attraction in the Waco area; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The person most instrumental in bringing about this
   1-12  splendid project is Charlie McCleary who founded the Texas Tennis
   1-13  Hall of Fame; he kept the Waco community focused on completing the
   1-14  project; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Mayor Bob Sheehy coordinated the effort with the
   1-16  help of several individuals and civic organizations; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A trade was effected between the City of Waco and
   1-18  Baylor University so that the new structure could be located near
   1-19  the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame in the middle of the tourist district;
   1-20  and
   1-21        WHEREAS, A special thank you goes to all those who helped
   1-22  bring the Texas Sports Hall of Fame to fruition; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Southern Living and Texas Monthly magazines
    2-1  and other publications are featuring the new facility; the city is
    2-2  purchasing billboards along Interstate 35 to attract visitors to
    2-3  the new Texas Sports Hall of Fame; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Famous and well-loved Coach Tom Landry has agreed
    2-5  to have the Hall of Fame Theater named after him; five outstanding
    2-6  sports figures, George Foreman, Harvey Penick, Darrell Royal,
    2-7  Grant Teaff, and Nolan Ryan, will be recognized for their
    2-8  achievements by creating tribute rooms in their honor; now,
    2-9  therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-11  73rd Legislature, hereby declare April 16, 1993, Texas Sports Hall
   2-12  of Fame Day in Texas; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
   2-14  recognition of the new Texas Sports Hall of Fame and its
   2-15  establishment in Waco.
