No. 616 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, It is indeed an honor for the Texas Senate to 1-3 recognize The Waxahachie Daily Light for being chosen for five 1-4 awards by the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors' Association; 1-5 and 1-6 WHEREAS, On March 27, 1993, The Waxahachie Daily Light 1-7 won two first place and three honorable mention awards in contests 1-8 open to Associated Press newspapers across the entire state; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The newspaper competes in a division for daily 1-10 newspapers with a circulation of under 10,000; and 1-11 WHEREAS, One first place honor was given in the 1-12 photojournalism category to a team composed of photographer 1-13 Scott Dorsett, Managing Editor Sandra Minatra, and reporters 1-14 Paula Ficarra and Terry Britt; and 1-15 WHEREAS, They were awarded the coveted honor for their 1-16 photographic coverage of President George Bush's visit to 1-17 Ellis County and the site of the Superconducting Super Collider 1-18 in 1992; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Scott Dorsett won individual honors with three 1-20 awards; he earned a first place award in sports photography for 1-21 his depiction of the Waxahachie High School's competition in a 1-22 track and field event entitled "Hurdler"; and 1-23 WHEREAS, He also won an honorable mention in sports 2-1 photography for "Dawg," a photograph taken during the Waxahachie 2-2 Indians' outstanding football season and in the feature photography 2-3 division for a retrospective look at the Desert Storm rally in 2-4 Ellis County; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Editor Sandra Minatra won an honorable 2-6 mention in editorial writing for her editorial on the death 2-7 of James Frazier, Jr., a lifeguard at the Penn Park Pool in the 2-8 city; and 2-9 WHEREAS, The newspaper has maintained a tradition of 2-10 providing its subscribers with the most recent and vital local news 2-11 and information in a responsible and accurate manner; and 2-12 WHEREAS, The awards are a tribute to the men and women who 2-13 have contributed to the enduring success of the publication which 2-14 has been fortunate to have a dedicated staff working diligently to 2-15 produce a noteworthy paper; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby 2-17 congratulate The Waxahachie Daily Light and its staff on their 2-18 recent awards and commend them for their exceptional contributions 2-19 to their city and state; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a 2-21 memento of their prestigious awards with best wishes for continued 2-22 success in the years to come from the Texas Senate. 2-23 _____________________________________ 2-24 President of the Senate 2-25 I hereby certify that the 3-1 above Resolution was adopted by 3-2 the Senate on April 15, 1993. 3-3 _____________________________________ 3-4 Secretary of the Senate 3-5 _____________________________________ 3-6 Member, Texas Senate
