By: Turner S.R. No. 619 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud 1-3 to extend congratulations to the Crockett High School Small 1-4 School Champion Academic Decathlon Team for its magnificent 1-5 showing in the state championship meet in San Antonio on 1-6 February 27 and 28, 1993; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The team from Crockett High School competed 1-8 against 19 other schools in the state finals of the small schools 1-9 division; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The nine members of this outstanding high school 1-11 team competed in 10 events which included mathematics, science, 1-12 fine arts, language and literature, social studies, essay, speech, 1-13 interview, economics, and the super quiz; and 1-14 WHEREAS, After working hard for several months, the 1-15 Crockett High School team met its goal by winning first place 1-16 in the state competition; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The winning team is composed of Ashley Beasley, 1-18 Trisha Knox, Jon Ridge, Francisco Gomez, Ashley Musick, 1-19 Daniel Murchison, Metcheal Abb, Kerry Kuehl, and John Turner; 1-20 the academic coaches are Nelda Carter and Ronald McConnell and 1-21 the members of the support team are Meg Griffith, Marcus Harkins, 1-22 Melody Moten, Brent Jackson, Melissa Winfield, Alana Whitton, and 1-23 Lorrie Mays; and 2-1 WHEREAS, In the individual competition John Turner was the 2-2 overall top scorer in the State meet winning first place in the 2-3 Honors Division, Daniel Murchison was the first place winner in 2-4 the Scholastic Division, and Francisco Gomez was the second place 2-5 winner in the Scholastic Division; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The accomplishments of our state's young people 2-7 are a source of pride for all Texans and the winning team from 2-8 Crockett High School is truly worthy of legislative recognition; 2-9 now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the Crockett High 2-12 School Small School Champion Academic Decathlon Team and extend 2-13 best wishes for great success in the future; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this 2-15 exceptional high school team as an expression of the admiration and 2-16 high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-17 _____________________________________ 2-18 President of the Senate 2-19 I hereby certify that the 2-20 above Resolution was adopted by 2-21 the Senate on April 15, 1993. 2-22 _____________________________________ 2-23 Secretary of the Senate 2-24 _____________________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate
