    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  recognize Mrs. Rosa Ramirez Guerrero of El Paso, Texas, for her
    1-4  exceptional contributions to the citizens of her city and the state;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The varied and notable achievements of this
    1-7  outstanding individual in her work with young people have
    1-8  contributed to their understanding and appreciation of their
    1-9  heritage; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Mrs. Guerrero has spent most of her adult life in
   1-11  loving service to others as a dance teacher who combines pride in
   1-12  her own culture and respect for all cultures to reach out to young
   1-13  people; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The multitalented educator is an artist,
   1-15  dance historian, and founder of her own business, Rosa Guerrero
   1-16  International Ballet Folklorico; she brings people of diverse races
   1-17  together and is known for her ability to instill in those with whom
   1-18  she works a stronger sense of cultural identity and well-being; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Born in El Paso, she began dancing at the age of
   1-20  three with her father; she was a popular student and leader at
   1-21  El Paso High School where she was involved in various student
   1-22  activities; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Rosa attended Texas Woman's University on a dance
    2-1  scholarship and graduated from The University of Texas at El Paso
    2-2  with a bachelor of arts degree in physical education; in 1954 she
    2-3  married Sergio Guerrero and the couple became the parents of three
    2-4  children; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Her career as a teacher in the El Paso public
    2-6  schools for 20 years was combined with her role as wife and mother;
    2-7  she founded her folklorico dance company in 1974 in an effort to
    2-8  instill in children a love of the arts; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Rosa Guerrero travels across the United States
   2-10  as a consultant speaking to students and teachers, often taking
   2-11  her dance company with her; the joy of dance she learned as a child
   2-12  is reflected through her dance troupe to audiences throughout the
   2-13  country; for her cultural contributions, Mrs. Guerrero has received
   2-14  the Valley Forge Freedoms Foundation Award; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, To express their appreciation for her remarkable
   2-16  accomplishments, the citizens of El Paso are dedicating a school in
   2-17  her honor; she has brought recognition to her community through her
   2-18  message of understanding and humanitarian work; now, therefore, be it
   2-19        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-20  73rd Legislature, hereby join the citizens of El Paso in commending
   2-21  Rosa Ramirez Guerrero for her contributions to the arts; and, be
   2-22  it further
   2-23        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-24  esteemed educator as an expression of the high regard of the
   2-25  Texas Senate.
