No. 634 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize the South Dallas Business and Professional Women's 1-4 Club, Incorporated, on the occasion of its 30th Annual 1-5 V. Alyce Foster Trailblazer Awards and Scholarship Luncheon 1-6 which is being held April 24, 1993; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The South Dallas Business and Professional Women's 1-8 Club, Incorporated, hosts the Trailblazer Luncheon annually as a 1-9 showcase for recognizing African Americans who have helped shape 1-10 Dallas by donating their talents and skills to assist with the 1-11 area's growth and development; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The event also recognizes area scholars for their 1-13 outstanding academic and community achievements and those 1-14 individuals who were the first to hold certain positions in their 1-15 profession or community; and 1-16 WHEREAS, This year's luncheon theme is "Forward Together: 1-17 Power Through Advocacy and Involvement"; the club is honored to 1-18 have Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson as the keynote speaker; 1-19 and 1-20 WHEREAS, Those who are being honored as 1993 Trailblazers 1-21 are Mabel White, Woman of the Year; Sam Lindsay, the first African 1-22 American City Attorney for the City of Dallas; Michael Hamilton, 1-23 the first African American Associate Director of the Veterans 2-1 Administration Medical Center in Dallas; Ruthie Jackson, the first 2-2 African American to be named Regional Administrator for the 2-3 Southwest District of the Food and Nutrition Service, United States 2-4 Department of Agriculture; Joe Walker, the first African American 2-5 Board Chairman for the Saint Phillip's School; and Edna Pemberton, 2-6 Community Service Awardee; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The South Dallas Business and Professional Women's 2-8 Club, Incorporated, honors individuals who would not ordinarily 2-9 receive recognition for their outstanding work and assists the 2-10 community by offering to award over $6,000 in scholarships to 2-11 deserving high school seniors who are aspiring to higher 2-12 education; and 2-13 WHEREAS, This exemplary women's club is a valuable asset to 2-14 the Dallas community and provides well deserved recognition to some 2-15 of Dallas's most outstanding citizens; the club's Trailblazer 2-16 Luncheon spotlights role models for the youth of the community 2-17 and generously provides much needed educational scholarships; now, 2-18 therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-20 73rd Legislature, hereby commend the South Dallas Business and 2-21 Professional Women's Club, Incorporated, on its admirable goals and 2-22 its many contributions to the Dallas community; and, be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-24 club as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-25 _____________________________________ 3-1 President of the Senate 3-2 I hereby certify that the 3-3 above Resolution was adopted by 3-4 the Senate on April 19, 1993. 3-5 _____________________________________ 3-6 Secretary of the Senate 3-7 _____________________________________ 3-8 Member, Texas Senate
