    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to join
    1-3  with the Harris County Children's Protective Services Casework
    1-4  Managers in honoring the volunteers who work with Family Outreach
    1-5  Center, Incorporated, of Southwest Houston; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Family Outreach Center, Incorporated, of
    1-7  Southwest Houston was established in 1983 as part of a collaborative
    1-8  project by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory
    1-9  Services, Harris County Children's Protective Services, and
   1-10  community volunteers; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Dedicated to their work and to helping the
   1-12  children of the community, the center's volunteers help to prevent
   1-13  child abuse by providing stressline counseling, casework, parenting
   1-14  classes, child caring programs, and a speakers bureau; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The volunteers provide ongoing casework services
   1-16  for families in the southwest Houston area who are experiencing
   1-17  parent/child related problems with children under the age of 13; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, The volunteers provide support, education on
   1-19  parenting skills, and knowledge of alternatives to help families
   1-20  improve their current levels of functioning; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Through the parenting classes, the volunteers help
   1-22  parents to better understand why children "act out," and to
   1-23  determine what positive steps they can take to correct undesirable
    2-1  behavior; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, The work of the volunteers is vital to the
    2-3  success of the outreach center and their services are undoubtedly
    2-4  providing much needed assistance to families with difficult
    2-5  child/parent relationships; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  73rd Legislature, hereby commend the volunteers for Family Outreach
    2-8  Center, Incorporated, of Southwest Houston for generously devoting
    2-9  their time and energy to the children and families of Harris County;
   2-10  and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
