No. 651 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Over 35 million Americans become victims of crime 1-3 each year with 5.7 million citizens falling prey to violence; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Approximately 37 percent of all crimes are not 1-5 even reported to law enforcement officials; and 1-6 WHEREAS, All Americans must join together in committing 1-7 their resources to crime prevention and victim services; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The Gulf Coast Chapter of People Against Violent 1-9 Crime is a volunteer organization working to restore the balance 1-10 in the lives of those who are victims of violent crimes; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The Gulf Coast Chapter of People Against Violent 1-12 Crime has received both local and state recognition; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The Gulf Coast Chapter of People Against Violent 1-14 Crime informs victims of their rights, offers emotional support, 1-15 provides a victim warm-line, accompanies them to court and visits 1-16 to the Board of Pardons and Paroles, and presents their causes to 1-17 prosecutors and judges; now, therefore, be it 1-18 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-19 73rd Legislature, hereby declare April 25 through May 1, 1993, as 1-20 National Victims' Rights Week in Houston, Texas; and, be it further 1-21 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 1-22 the Gulf Coast Chapter of People Against Violent Crime as an 1-23 expression of support from the Texas Senate for the splendid job 2-1 it performs on behalf of victims' rights. 2-2 _____________________________________ 2-3 President of the Senate 2-4 I hereby certify that the 2-5 above Resolution was adopted by 2-6 the Senate on April 21, 1993. 2-7 _____________________________________ 2-8 Secretary of the Senate 2-9 _____________________________________ 2-10 Member, Texas Senate
