    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Drug use and alcohol abuse are invidious problems
    1-3  that destroy families and mar the futures of our young people; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Education about the perils of drug and alcohol use
    1-5  is the key to the prevention of their abuse; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas is proud to recognize
    1-7  Cooper High School, which is promoting a drug-free and alcohol-free
    1-8  environment; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, This awareness campaign is sponsored by a student
   1-10  group, FREE, that proposes that students live an alcohol-free and
   1-11  drug-free lifestyle; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Events have been scheduled for every day of the
   1-13  week, from April 19, 1993, through April 23, 1993, to call
   1-14  attention to the merits of a drug-free lifestyle; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Several activities are planned including:  daily
   1-16  readings over the loudspeaker, a carnival-like atmosphere at all
   1-17  lunch periods at Cooper High School, and festive decorations all
   1-18  over the campus promoting the drug-free and alcohol-free environment;
   1-19  and
   1-20        WHEREAS, FREE has also scheduled a pep rally on
   1-21  Friday, April 23; there will be a live band, a guest speaker,
   1-22  and special dedications for each individual choosing to adopt the
   1-23  alcohol-free and drug-free lifestyle; pledge cards will be available
    2-1  to students who make that choice on Friday and at each lunch period;
    2-2  and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The public-spirited group FREE has planned all
    2-4  these festivities, and the members certainly deserve legislative
    2-5  recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  73rd Legislature, hereby commend FREE for their positive
    2-8  approach to preventing drug and alcohol abuse; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
   2-10  for Cooper High School as an expression of high regard from the
   2-11  Texas Senate.
