No. 663 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize the members of Volunteers of America, Northern Texas, 1-4 Incorporated, for the outstanding services they provide to the 1-5 people of North Texas; and 1-6 WHEREAS, On April 29, 1993, the organization's board, staff, 1-7 and community supporters are celebrating its 75th anniversary with 1-8 a reception at the historic Eddleman-McFarland House in Fort Worth; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, Since 1918, Volunteers of America, Northern Texas, 1-11 Incorporated, has provided immeasurable benefits to families and 1-12 individuals who are in need of assistance in the areas of adoption, 1-13 maternity care, foster care, and drug rehabilitation; and 1-14 WHEREAS, VOA Northern Texas is a locally governed corporation 1-15 of the national VOA organization; its mission is to serve God by 1-16 helping others; and 1-17 WHEREAS, VOA Northern Texas operates residences in Tarrant 1-18 and Dallas counties for physically and developmentally disabled 1-19 adults and children, for individuals recovering from substance 1-20 abuse, and for offenders making restitution to society; and 1-21 WHEREAS, This admirable organization has a professional staff 1-22 of social workers who teach parenting skills to dysfunctional 1-23 families, provide help for retarded individuals, and offer 2-1 respite care for family caregivers; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The organization is well known for the programs it 2-3 has developed to help entire neighborhoods to remain drug free; the 2-4 programs are currently operating in Fort Worth's Polytechnic Heights 2-5 area; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The services provided by this organization are vital 2-7 to the North Texas area and to the welfare of young women, children, 2-8 and adoptive couples throughout the state; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 73rd Legislature, hereby commend the members of Volunteers of 2-11 America, Northern Texas, Incorporated, for their generous endeavors 2-12 on behalf of the citizens of Texas and extend best wishes to them 2-13 for a joyous 75th anniversary; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them 2-15 as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-16 _____________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the 2-19 above Resolution was adopted by 2-20 the Senate on April 21, 1993. 2-21 _____________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 _____________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
