    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize Dr. Crispin E. Sanchez for his 22 years of outstanding
    1-4  service as Dean of Student Personnel Services at Laredo Junior
    1-5  College; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Dr. Sanchez began his exceptional career in the
    1-7  field of education 44 years ago as a classroom teacher with Laredo
    1-8  Independent School District; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, During the 1960s, he served as assistant principal
   1-10  at J. W. Nixon High School and became Dean of Student Personnel
   1-11  Services at Laredo Junior College in 1971; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, As Dean of Student Personnel Services, Dr. Sanchez
   1-13  was responsible for supervising a number of areas, including
   1-14  Enrollment Management, Counseling and Guidance, Financial Aid,
   1-15  Student Activities, Learning Center and Student Support Services,
   1-16  Athletics, Campus Health Services, Placement Services, and Special
   1-17  Populations; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, A highly respected administrator who consistently
   1-19  manifested concern for others, Dr. Sanchez was beloved and respected
   1-20  by his colleagues in education and by the students in the college;
   1-21  and
   1-22        WHEREAS, An enthusiastic supporter of athletics, Dr. Sanchez
   1-23  served as athletic director from 1984-1993, supervising the coaching
    2-1  of baseball, volleyball, and tennis; in his honor, the school has
    2-2  dedicated its baseball field as "Crispin 'Doc' Sanchez Field"; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, In his position as dean, Dr. Sanchez's
    2-4  responsibilities also included assisting with the orientation
    2-5  for new students of each instructional division, counseling students
    2-6  for academic advisement, helping students with academic problems,
    2-7  and evaluating curriculum and requirements for satisfactory academic
    2-8  progress and degree requirements; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, A talented speaker who is knowledgeable in many
   2-10  areas, Dr. Sanchez made numerous professional presentations; he
   2-11  appeared as a guest lecturer at Northwestern University to speak
   2-12  on "Educational Problems of Mexican-Americans," presented "A Report
   2-13  Requesting the Establishment of a Full State Supported Community
   2-14  College System in Texas" to a Constitutional Revision Committee,
   2-15  and presented "Advising Minority Students" to the Southern Region
   2-16  of Academic Affairs Administrators; and
   2-17        WHEREAS, Dr. Sanchez's distinguished leadership contributed
   2-18  significantly to the growth of services and quality of education
   2-19  at Laredo Junior College, and he has been a positive influence on
   2-20  the lives of innumerable students; and
   2-21        WHEREAS, Laredo Junior College has greatly benefitted from
   2-22  the diligence, expertise, and generous spirit of this gifted
   2-23  educator; now, therefore, be it
   2-24        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-25  73rd Legislature, hereby express appreciation to
    3-1  Dr. Crispin E. Sanchez for his many contributions to Laredo Junior
    3-2  College and extend best wishes to him for the retirement years
    3-3  ahead; and, be it further
    3-4        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    3-5  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
