    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Texas Clipper was built by American Export
    1-3  Lines, then commandeered by the Navy for use as a troop ship to
    1-4  serve in the Pacific Theater in the last year of World War II; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, From that beginning more than 50 years ago, she has
    1-6  undergone a complete remodeling twice, first to transform her from
    1-7  a World War II troop ship to a cargo-passenger liner, and then to
    1-8  modernize her as a training vessel for the Texas A&M University at
    1-9  Galveston maritime students; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The Texas Clipper has had a long and honorable
   1-11  history as a functioning ship vital to the well-being of the
   1-12  maritime programs at Texas A&M University at Galveston; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Providing many years of service to
   1-14  Texas A&M University, the Texas Clipper has been a fond
   1-15  and consistent teacher to its varied student crews and has
   1-16  provided summer cruises that profit everyone; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The people whose loving care allowed her to stay in
   1-18  excellent service many years past her expected retirement will not
   1-19  forget the Texas Clipper; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, The Texas Clipper has earned a special place in
   1-21  both the hearts of Aggies and in the rich maritime history of Texas;
   1-22  and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The Texas Clipper will be replaced by the
    2-1  USN Chauvenet, which will be used to provide the seagoing
    2-2  experiences and leadership skills required by the maritime
    2-3  industry; now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-5  73rd Legislature, hereby commemorate the service of the
    2-6  Texas Clipper as it sails on its final voyage this summer;
    2-7  and, be it further
    2-8        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-9  Texas Clipper Captain Peter Bourgeois, for the United States
   2-10  Maritime Administration, and for Texas A&M University as an
   2-11  expression of the high regard from the Texas Senate.
