    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Milam County Historical Museum has been
    1-3  selected to receive an award for outstanding achievement in the area
    1-4  of interpretive exhibits, and the Texas Senate is pleased to extend
    1-5  congratulations to the museum for this significant accomplishment; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Awards are presented annually by the Texas Historical
    1-7  Commission to Texas museums for their achievements in the categories
    1-8  of exhibits, education programs, media productions, and community
    1-9  involvement; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The Milam County Historical Museum was awarded an
   1-11  Honorable Mention for its 1992 project entitled "Spanish Missions
   1-12  of Milam County 1746-1756"; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The museum acquired the loan of artifacts from
   1-14  archeological digs conducted by Dr. Kathleen Gilmore on three Spanish
   1-15  missions and a presidio which were in Milam County from 1746 to 1756;
   1-16  and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The artifacts were publicly exhibited together for
   1-18  the first time and a narrative of the missions was printed with
   1-19  copies made available to the high schools and public libraries
   1-20  in Milam County; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The award-winning display illustrates the lifestyles,
   1-22  implements, and everyday items from both the Indian and Spanish
   1-23  cultures of the 1700s in Central Texas; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The purpose of the Milam County Historical Museum is
    2-2  to collect, preserve, study, and exhibit those objects that serve to
    2-3  illustrate the story of man and nature in Milam County that will
    2-4  bring about a better understanding and appreciation of history,
    2-5  art, and the natural and social sciences; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Texas museums provide the public with exceptional
    2-7  educational, entertaining, and interactive opportunities to preserve,
    2-8  learn about, and celebrate local heritage and are deserving of
    2-9  recognition for their remarkable accomplishments; now, therefore,
   2-10  be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  73rd Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the Milam County
   2-13  Historical Museum for its informative and significant exhibit on 17th
   2-14  century missions in Milam County; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-16  museum staff as an expression of the admiration and appreciation of
   2-17  the Texas Senate.
