    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize
    1-3  Dave McDermand and Bill Meeks of the Bryan Eagle for their
    1-4  excellent contributions to their profession and to the citizens
    1-5  of Texas; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The veteran newspaper photographers were awarded
    1-7  spot news photography honors in the 1993 Texas Associated Press
    1-8  Managing Editors Association Competition on March 27, 1993, for
    1-9  their on-the-spot coverage of major news events; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Dave McDermand captured first place for his vivid
   1-11  photograph depicting people running from an oilwell explosion and
   1-12  fire on August 14, 1992, in northern Brazos County; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The talented and dedicated newspaperman received
   1-14  his fourth first-place award in Associated Press Managing Editors
   1-15  competition; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The  skilled photographer, who has worked for the
   1-17  Bryan Eagle for 10 years, has received first-place Associated
   1-18  Press Managing Editors awards in short features, feature photography,
   1-19  and sports photography; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Bill Meeks won honorable mention for an aerial
   1-21  view of the Wesley community in Washington County after the liquid
   1-22  propane gas explosion on April 7, 1992; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Mr. Meeks is a 16-year veteran of the Bryan
    2-1  Eagle and has won over 100 awards in photojournalism; in 1991
    2-2  he received Headliners and Katy awards for his notable work; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Newsphotography can be a dangerous and frightening
    2-4  experience and photographers often risk their lives to capture a
    2-5  newsworthy event for their readers; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Masters of their trade, these dedicated
    2-7  photographers are truly deserving of the honors bestowed on them;
    2-8  now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Dave McDermand and Bill Meeks
   2-11  for receiving the 1993 Texas Associated Press Managing Editors
   2-12  Association awards; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-14  them as an expression of the admiration and esteem of the
   2-15  Texas Senate.
