No. 706 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The volunteers of the Texas Scholars Program are 1-3 to be congratulated for their initiative in effecting the program 1-4 in the Northwest Independent School District; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This innovative program's primary objective is to 1-6 persuade secondary school students to take more advanced science 1-7 and math courses instead of selecting courses in which they can 1-8 make an "easy A"; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The Texas Scholars Program utilizes successful 1-10 business leaders from the community to give talks to all eighth 1-11 and ninth grade students in the district; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Providing the students with the skills necessary 1-13 to compete in the technological society of tomorrow is essential; 1-14 business men and women can emphasize the value of advanced science 1-15 and mathematics courses as a way to prepare for tomorrow's job 1-16 market; and 1-17 WHEREAS, These generous business people give their talks 1-18 to small informal groups of students with question and answer 1-19 opportunities; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Northwest Independent School District hopes to 1-21 emulate the success of the program that has been used successfully 1-22 in other school districts such as Grapevine, Southlake-Carroll, 1-23 Bedford, Keller, and Hurst-Euless-Bedford; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-2 73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate and commend the Texas Scholars 2-3 Program volunteers on the success of this impressive program; and, 2-4 be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them 2-6 as an expression of admiration from the Texas Senate. 2-7 _____________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the 2-10 above Resolution was adopted by 2-11 the Senate on April 26, 1993. 2-12 _____________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 _____________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
