    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Texas Senate takes special pride in honoring
    1-3  the Mexican American Comptroller Employees' Association on the
    1-4  occasion of its 10th anniversary as an active organization and its
    1-5  10th annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Mexican American Comptroller Employees'
    1-7  Association was established to foster an awareness of Mexican
    1-8  American culture, enhance the appreciation of the Hispanic heritage,
    1-9  and promote educational opportunities for minorities; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Over the past 10 years, this worthy organization has
   1-11  made thousands of dollars in contributions to deserving high school
   1-12  and college students in the form of scholarships and to such worthy
   1-13  programs as the National Hispanic Institute and the Austin
   1-14  Independent School District Drop-out Program; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Many of the recent successes of the Mexican American
   1-16  Comptroller Employees' Association are directly attributable to
   1-17  Comptroller John Sharp, who has given the association his strong
   1-18  support, participated in the Mexican American Comptroller Employees'
   1-19  Association's mentorship program, and demonstrated a genuine
   1-20  commitment to its goal of enhancing the awareness of Mexican American
   1-21  culture and to its efforts to improve the community; in addition,
   1-22  Comptroller Sharp has greatly expanded employment opportunities for
   1-23  Mexican Americans in his agency and dramatically increased the number
    2-1  of qualified Mexican Americans in managerial positions in his agency;
    2-2  and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The generosity displayed by the members of the
    2-4  Mexican American Comptroller Employees' Association continues to
    2-5  benefit countless numbers of Texans, and the occasion of the group's
    2-6  annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta provides an appropriate opportunity to
    2-7  express praise and support of their many outstanding accomplishments
    2-8  in this regard; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  73rd Legislature, hereby honor the members of the Mexican American
   2-11  Comptroller Employees' Association and extend best wishes to them on
   2-12  the occasion of their 10th anniversary and 10th annual Cinco de Mayo
   2-13  Fiesta; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-15  Mexican American Comptroller Employees' Association as a token of
   2-16  esteem from the Texas Senate.
