    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           Caroline Shelton
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  citizens of San Antonio in mourning the death of Caroline Shelton
    1-7  on February 14, 1993; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Mrs. Shelton moved to
    1-9  San Antonio in the early 1940s with her late husband, Arthur; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, After studying architecture at Carnegie-Mellon
   1-11  Institute in Pittsburgh, Mrs. Shelton studied art and fashion
   1-12  illustration at the Ecole Nationale de Beaux Arts in Paris; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Before moving to San Antonio, Mrs. Shelton was a
   1-14  fashion illustrator at Hecht's Department Store in Washington, D.C.,
   1-15  and O'Neill's in Baltimore; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, A renowned watercolor artist, Mrs. Shelton was
   1-17  Advertising Director for Joske's from 1943 until her retirement
   1-18  in 1971; she was chosen Artist of the Year by the San Antonio Art
   1-19  League in 1983; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Always active in civic and community affairs,
   1-21  Mrs. Shelton designed the first official Night in Old San Antonio
   1-22  poster for the San Antonio Conservation Society in 1983; over the
   1-23  years she also painted highly sought-after paper bags to be sold
    2-1  at the Night in Old San Antonio; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Her genuine warmth and cheerfulness will be missed
    2-3  by her many friends; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Throughout her long career in San Antonio,
    2-5  Mrs. Shelton taught fashion illustration and the history of
    2-6  costuming at Trinity University; her absence from the art world
    2-7  will be deeply felt; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  73rd Legislature, hereby commend the life of Mrs. Caroline Shelton
   2-10  and express its great appreciation for her many gifts to the
   2-11  citizens of San Antonio; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
   2-13  expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that
   2-14  when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-15  Caroline Shelton.
